B.P.R.D.

The shadowy shield standing between humanity and the apocalypse.

B.P.R.D. kicked off as a batch of miniseries, though the inside covers tracked an ongoing internal numbering system. By issue #100, that count moved to the front cover when it officially became a monthly ongoing title. Dark Horse has gathered most of these issues into trade paperbacks, and you can also find omnibus editions bundling multiple trades together.

Lore & Background

B.P.R.D. is a comic book creation by Mike Mignola and is usually published by Dark Horse Comics. It has been featured in numerous miniseries, one-shots, backup features, crossovers, and guest appearances. The series began as a series of miniseries, but it also had an ongoing numbering on the inside cover of its issues. For the 100th issue the internal numbering shifted to the front cover as the series became a monthly ongoing comic. Canon stories originally published in other publications, including original stories in Hellboy Universe collections, are also part of the B.P.R.D. line. If a story was re-printed in a regular issue later, only that issue is mentioned in the column Collections; for other collections, see the entry of the regular issue.

In Their Own Story

Rain lashed against the reinforced glass of the mobile command vehicle, blurring the lights of the abandoned factory ahead. Inside, the air smelled of ozone and stale coffee. Agent Mayhem adjusted his tactical vest, checking the charge on his plasma rifle for the third time in a minute. The briefing had been clear: the entity inside was not human, and it did not negotiate. As the heavy doors groaned open, revealing a shadow that seemed to drink the light from the room, the team moved forward as one unit. There were no cheers, only the quiet resolve of those who know they are the last thing standing between the world and the end.
