Lore & Background
Maggie was originally a show cow on the Dixon Ranch, but after the cattle rustler Alameda Slim stole most of the ranch's cattle, her owner Abner Dixon sold her to a kind, aging woman named Pearl Gesner, who runs a small farm called Patch of Heaven. Upon learning that Sheriff Sam Brown has given Pearl only three days to pay back the bank or lose her farm, Maggie convinces the farm cows Grace and Mrs. Calloway to go to town with her to win prize money at a fair. When she sees a bounty hunter named Rico collect a reward and learns that the reward for capturing Slim will cover Pearl's debt, Maggie persuades the other cows to help her collect the bounty. Along the way, she has a falling out with Mrs. Calloway, who believes Maggie only wants revenge and that Patch of Heaven would be better off without her. However, after they capture Slim and save the farm, Maggie decides to stay, and the three cows, along with other farm animals, win prizes as show livestock in the State Fair.
In Their Own Story
Maggie, a show cow with a brash and adventurous spirit, arrives at Patch of Heaven after being sold by Abner Dixon. When she learns that the farm is in danger of foreclosure unless Pearl Gesner can pay back the bank in three days, Maggie immediately takes action. She convinces the prim Mrs. Calloway and the ditzy Grace to go to town with her to win prize money at a fair. While in town, Maggie witnesses bounty hunter Rico collecting a reward and learns that capturing the wanted cattle rustler Alameda Slim would provide enough money to save Patch of Heaven. She rallies the other cows to join her in the hunt. During their quest, Maggie and Mrs. Calloway have a falling out after a flash flood, with Mrs. Calloway accusing Maggie of only wanting revenge. They make a deal that after the farm is saved, they will go their separate ways. However, after they successfully capture Slim, expose his disguise as 'Yancy O'Dell,' and use the reward money to save the farm, Maggie decides to stay. The film ends with Maggie, Mrs. Calloway, and Grace celebrating with a square dance alongside Barry, Bob, and Junior.
